What causes stress?
- A number of specific irritating events, such as an argument with a neighbour, friend or relative, a traffic jam on the way to an appointment and so on.
- General conditions in your life, such as poor physical health, a lack of a support system, loneliness, depression, and unsatisfactory living situations.
- Life cycle transitions and developmental stages, such as retirement or decreased physical abilities.
What does stress do to people?
Stress may cause moodiness, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. It may lead to depression, relationship problems. Chronic stress can obstruct your ability to enjoy your life and excel in a way that is unique to you.
About our Program
What is Stress Reduction Program?
Stress Reduction Program is a complex program with a number of approaches to treat Stress Related Problems. The program includes once-twice a week therapy sessions provided by Dr. Vik (Dr. Viktor Yakymovych), a psychiatrist.
Dr. Vik is a Member of Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Psychological Association, Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis and Canadian Acupuncture Foundation.
Therapy sessions are covered by Alberta Health, which means that all services are free for residents of Alberta.
The main goal of the Program:
help patients to cope better with current stress and provide them with some therapeutic skills in order to make them more resistant to potential stress in the future.
Why we call it Multilevel Stress Reduction?
In order to make our treatment most effective, during our sessions, we involve different levels of your Nervous System and use multiple methods of Therapy.
What kind of Therapy we use?
We use psychotherapy to teach you relaxation and self-hypnosis in order to open your mind and relieve stress.
In our sessions we use breathing and guided imagery techniques to relax your body and release tension caused by stress.
We use Music therapy, which also helps to relax and improve your mood.
We use Light Therapy, involving exposure to a special frequency light.
Magnetic Stimulation helps to regulate our mood.
Acupuncture is part of therapy.
You learn about special Acupressure zones important for your health.
We also use Dance Movement Exercises as part of Therapy.
During our Program we discuss Medications and Herbal Supplements suitable for Stress.
We discuss your sleep, your lifestyle, your diet and many other areas of your life in order to improve your stress resistance.
You learn some Techniques, which you can apply by yourself in order to be stronger and more resistant to Stress.
Criteria to be Accepted
Anyone struggling with stress related problems can attend the program.
Self referrals are acceptable.
Referrals also can be made by physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers and other health professionals.
Prior to starting the Program all participants undergo a clinical assessment.
